Seuss Shenanigans Across Elizabeth Forward
Elizabeth Forward Celebrated Read Across America Week with a flurry of events, activities and special guest readers. Read Across America Week is an opportunity for students to celebrate the magic of reading, and what better way to do that than with the imaginative world of Dr. Seuss? His timeless stories, filled with playful rhymes, quirky characters, and vibrant illustrations, spark creativity and joy in young readers.
Our schools use Dr. Seuss's books as a centerpiece for activities during the week, encouraging students to explore literature, celebrate diversity, and embrace the fun of storytelling. “Reading opens doors to endless adventures and through the events during Read Across America Week,” Frank Berdar, Central Elementary School Principal said, “we hope that we can inspire our children to explore new worlds, spark their imagination, and develop a lifelong love of books.”
Reading Across America Week has become a wonderful opportunity to bring our school community together to share in the joy of reading. “Read Across America Week really turns reading into a community celebration by having the middle and high school students come and read to the elementary students, having school staff share with students what they are reading outside of school and having our PTO ensure that all students get a free book through book Bingo,” said Dr. Laura Burns, Principal at Greenock and Mount Vernon Elementary Schools.
This year’s events included spirit days featuring things like Crazy Hair Day, Hat Day, and Pajama Day. “We had a great week of a variety of reading activities and lessons,” shared Brad Simala, Principal at William Penn Elementary. Classrooms came alive with rhymes, colorful decorations, and fun discussions about the importance of reading.
A huge thank you goes out to our incredible teachers, staff, students, and PTO volunteers who worked hard to make this week a success. Your enthusiasm and dedication to literacy help foster a lifelong love of reading in our students!
