  • Our Story

    Students building blocks

At Greenock and Mt. Vernon, we build creative, innovative, and responsible learners. Kindergartners bloom into independent, well-rounded problem solvers and iPad masters ready for the real world. Staff members embrace our school community and work together to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Using our Apple tools, we collaborate within and between our schools and outside community. We create relationships to connect with students and families, going above and beyond to provide resources and support. Through collaboration, personalized experiences, and the integration of Apple technologies, our students are learners who are prepared for the challenges this ever-changing world will provide.

    Vision

Greenock Primary and Mount Vernon Intermediate are sister-schools who are led by principal Jennifer Eisenreich. A well-developed digital ecosystem enables Greenock and Mount Vernon to collaborate so families experience a comprehensive and consistent program from kindergarten through fifth grade. With the most diverse socio-economic profile in our district, we customize experiences for each child and work with families to create life-long relationships. This endeavor is made possible with our 1:1 iPads and the community spirit of our team of Apple Certified educators. The joy of discovery is felt as our children enter the doors of each school, and the spark of creativity stays with them as they grow through the Elizabeth Forward School District.

    Learning

Greenock and Mount Vernon teachers design personalized learning paths and platforms with careful consideration of student needs, interests, and developmental appropriateness. Students find their voice and have choices to navigate learning. They develop individual ownership to be part of collective, collaborative groups. All students find their path on Canvas, and use apps like Garage Band, Pages, Clips, Apple Books and iMovie to extend educational experiences beyond our school walls.

    Success

Greenock Primary and Mount Vernon Intermediate Schools are important contributors to our Lighthouse District. Our teachers regularly contribute to panels where they share their expertise using Apple classroom technology. Both Common Sense Media Schools, we host parent events to share our Maker Spaces, and talk about student successes. Mount Vernon reached PBIS Tier I Fidelity and works closely with Greenock on PBIS goals. Our Computational Thinking and Computer Science Teacher Anna Blake was named Most Inspiring Educator by the Carnegie Science Center. She includes Greenock and Mount Vernon teachers on her STEAM site. Our proudest accomplishments are our students, who inspire us as creators and humans. They call our schools home and can often be found visiting their elementary classrooms long after they are students there.

    What’s Next

We will continue to share responsibility for integrating digital apps to meet individual needs. We will focus on building independent learners who are self-sufficient, accountable, and driven. Our next step is to build deeper connections, and self-reflection of interests and skills to explore career goals. We hope to foster collaboration with the community in a post-pandemic world to showcase the experiences and learning that takes place in our schools.
