Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Bart Rocco
This is my 34th year in public education. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree and
Masters in Secondary Education from Duquesne University, and I earned my Doctorate
in Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
My teaching career began in the South Park School District where I taught High School
English and High School Journalism and later, served as the Assistant Principal at South
Park High School. I was employed in the West Jefferson Hills School District and served
as Assistant Principal and Principal at Thomas Jefferson High School.
I was employed in the West Mifflin Area School District as the Assistant Superintendent
prior to my being commissioned as the Superintendent in the Elizabeth Forward School
District in 2009.
During my tenure in the Elizabeth Forward School District I have helped to build
partnerships with many local universities such as Carnegie Mellon University, University
of Pittsburgh, and California University of Pennsylvania. Four years ago, we instituted a
one to one iPad learning initiative where every child in the district receives an iPad for
learning. The district has been recognized nationally as a Digital Promise School District,
from the League of Innovative Schools, and has received an Apple Distinguished
Program Award though 2017 and is named a Digital Citizenship Certified District.
I was awarded the Distinguished Educator Award from the Tri-State Area Study Council
and the University of Pittsburgh in 2015, and was the recipient of the 2014 Outstanding
Educator Award from the Elizabeth Forward Alumni Association.
I have been married 31 years to my wife, Valerie, who is employed as a nurse at
Jefferson Regional Medical Center and we have one son, Dr. Philip Rocco, who is an
Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at Marquette University.
