Elizabeth Forward High School Celebrates Opening of New Gymnasium

After two years of planning, construction, and collaboration, Elizabeth Forward High School officially opened its new gymnasium on January 29, 2026, marking an exciting milestone for students, staff, and the community.

The day began with a special afternoon “First Shot” ceremony, bringing together student-athletes from the Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams, the Volleyball team, and the Girls’ Wrestling team. During the event, the six senior basketball players each took a ceremonial shot at one of the gym’s six new hoops, while senior volleyball players served and members of the girls’ wrestling team demonstrated grappling techniques at center court.

Surrounded by teammates, administrators, school board members, staff, and representatives from the construction crews, the ceremony served as a powerful recognition of the patience and perseverance shown throughout the construction process, and a reminder that students are supported by an entire community invested in their success.

That evening, the Elizabeth Forward Lady Warriors took the court against the Ringgold Rams for the first official game in the new gym. Despite cold temperatures and snowy conditions, the stands were filled with friends, family members, and community supporters eager to cheer on the team and experience the new space firsthand. The Warriors won the game 70 to 22.

“This is a moment our students, staff, and community have been eagerly anticipating,” said Keith Konyk, Superintendent of Elizabeth Forward School District. “We are excited that our high school basketball teams will be able to play the final three games of the season in this new facility. This initial use serves as a soft opening, allowing us to welcome the public while ensuring all systems function as intended. We look forward to hosting a full community celebration with an official ribbon-cutting this spring.”

The new gymnasium represents a significant investment in student activities and school pride, providing a modern, high-quality venue for athletics, school events, and community gatherings for years to come.

The district extends its sincere thanks to the Elizabeth Forward School Board, the community, and the construction teams whose dedication and hard work helped make this long-awaited opening possible.
