Spelling runs in the family for Elizabeth Forward third grader Vito Cialone: The Central Elementary student won the Elementary School Spelling Bee at the Middle School Auditorium on Thursday night, spelling "composer" to best 50 fellow third graders.

Ryan Adams of Mt. Vernon Elementary came in second place, while Karson Crothers of William Penn Elementary came in third place.

For Vito, spelling success has family roots. His mother, Sara Cialone, was a four-year elementary school spelling bee champion in the McKeesport Area School District. She even wore her '1993 Spelling Bee Champ' shirt for the occasion!

The Rotary Club of Elizabeth supported the spelling bee, providing a combined $300 to the winners ($150 for first place, $100 for second place, $50 for third place). The district thanks the rotary club for its support of the spelling bee and so many other school events.
