In October 2017, William Penn was the recipient of three handmade benches made by Autumn and CJ Timko in memory of their beloved son, Rex. They are placed in the Wildlife Habitat, an outdoor classroom loved by Rex and created by volunteers and students of William Penn.

Rex passed away on December 16, 2016 from Batten Disease (@rallyforrex). He was a 3^rd grade student who enjoyed listening to songs children sang, books from the library as they were read to him, and simply the sounds around him at school.
