Swimming

  • Beginning Swimming:

    This course exposes individuals who have no aquatic ability to water safety skills in order to make them reasonably safe while in or around the water.  The students will move through a series of skills designated by the American Red Cross.  Pace is established in accordance with individual needs with instructor’s guidance. This class meets five (5) periods per week. 

     

    Intermediate Swimming:

    This course provides individuals with the opportunity to advance their swimming skills.  Also, students should be somewhat confident in the water. Skills included with the course are freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and diving. Lap swimming will be included as part of a fitness component in the course. This class meets five (5) periods per week. 

    Prerequisite: Students should be able to swim the length of the pool. Swimming is a required course for all 9h grade students to meet graduation requirements.  

     

    Advanced Swimming:

    This course provides the individual instruction on the four competitive swimming strokes and various swimming skills and techniques.  Lap swimming will be included as part of a fitness component in the course. This class meets five (5) periods per week. 

    Prerequisite: Students must be able to swim four lengths (100 yards) and be able to swim five (5) minutes continuously.  Swimming is a required course for all 9th grade students to meet graduation requirements.
