What's new at Central for this year? We have added a number of new teachers to the fantastic staff here at Central! They're the new face of Central and we couldn't be more excited. Also, we've implemented a new recess/lunch schedule. The kids participate in recess first, before going inside to eat. The schedule will ultimately help prevent belly aches, cut down on food waste, and decrease behavior problems in the lunchroom and in the classroom. So far, it's worked wonders. We've also started our full-day kindergarten programming. Every child in the district will benefit from the longer school day, focused instruction, and increased socialization. Kindergarten is no longer just about play- it helps lay the foundation for all their future learning. Why do you feel that a new playground is necessary for our children? Increasing attention is being paid to the problem of childhood obesity. Our children are becomming far too unhealthy at an early age. Schools play a major part in ensuring that this doesn't happen. One way we attempt to do this is offer a period of recess play during their normal school day. We currently lack a dynamic play space for the students. Putting in a new playground will not only benefit our children, but the entire Central community at large. What is the best thing about being the principal at Central? Without a doubt, it is being around the kids! Our greatest asset as a school is our students. These children are wonderful to be around- day in and day out. The parents, also, make a big difference in my ability to do this job. The support is second to none. Our PTO is very active and really helps push this school towards excellence. I wouldn't trade this job for the world. |
